Sponsored Zorb raises USD 4300
Let's start the week with some positive news!
As you know, we recently held our
Annual Meeting in Cambodia. It was a memorable trip and many of us were moved by the conditions that the majority of children live and learn in. There is 1 particular school in a poor, rural village (away from tourists view) that I decided to help.
The school provides free general education to 70 children, most of which are the local villager's children and some are from a local orphanage. In the morning the children are taught Khmer and in the afternoon they are taught English. At the moment this school is run in very poor conditions, not enough staff, tables, chairs, pens, book or uniforms.
On Saturday 13 June, my son (Tom, aged 12 years) and I completed a Sponsored Zorb, in order to raise money for the school. Our aim was to raise $2500.
The zorb is a gigantic inflatable sphere, standing 3.2 meters in height with another smaller sphere suspended inside by approximately a thousand nylon strands. We were safely harnessed opposite each other before being launched down a Zorbing run, revolving head over heels, gaining speed with every revolution, land and sky merging into one!
The day was great fun, shared with our family and friends with the thought of the children in Cambodia very close to all of us.
I am absolutely thrilled to announce that we have raised $4,300!
I would like to say a special thank you to all the UFO Members who kindly donated, enabling us to reach and exceed our fundraising target.
I must also thank my brave son Tom for taking part with me, and for suffering my screams as we rolled down the hill!
Thanks to the kind generosity of our friends and family the school will not only be able to buy new tables and chairs and provide each of the children with a school uniform (many are so poor that they have to wear their pyjamas to school). We can also now sponsor their staff and further teaching materials to ensure that the school continues to educate and support the local children.
Thank you again to all those who have supported this cause. We are all able to smile today, knowing that we have made a difference to the daily lives of 70 children.
As I stated in my previous email, this is a personal matter to me and there is never any obligation to contribute to this or any of our
UFO Foundation causes. A donation must always come from the heart, not through obligation.
Have a great week :)
Kind regards,
RACHEL HUMPHREY
